Oooof consent can be such a minefield, and a costly one too. But it also means your building and its connections are done properly, considering the uniqueness of your site and the building you (or others) will be living in!
We are learning that the best advice to offer our clients is:
1/ talk to the Planner at your respective council to discuss your Tiny Home plans.
Each council is different, each property is different, and each building is different. As frustrating as it is, there is just no way to offer a 'blanket' set of rules. Taking this step *should* give you an accurate idea of the requirements that come with your particular piece of land, and the costs you may incur to meet these.
2/ budget up to $50,000.00+gst for the costs beyond the build portion of your Tiny Home dream. These costs could be more if your land has any challenges.
This would include transport, foundations, plumbing and electrical connections, architectural fees to draw the plans and prepare the submission for resource and/or building consent and resource and/or building consent fees.
Knowledge is power, so it's always better to ask more questions and seek more information. Tiny Home living is such a cool thing, and if the consent process is done right, it's really rewarding at the end of it all!
