Cross Hills Gardens is the largest private garden in the Manawatu that features one of the world's finest collections of rhododendrons and azaleas. The large gardens feature over 2,000 varieties of rhododendrons and azaleas and many other rare trees, shrubs and perennials have been planted to add interest for all seasons to provide a colourful and vibrant display. Onsite facilities include the Gar

den Cafe (pre booked group bookings only) and Plant Centre. All buildings and virtually all the gardens are accessible by wheelchairs, electric scooters and pushchairs. Alternatively, you can book a tour on the 'Magic Mini' and get chauffeured around the gardens. An onsite camellia maze and a beautiful waterfall give children, and the young at heart, hours of fun!

Deciduous Azalea ‘Barbecue’ really puts on a show 🔥

Here’s a spot of colour for a rainy day — those flaming orange blooms are hard to beat in the spring sunshine (when it decides to make an appearance!). Grown right here at Cross Hills, this beauty is as tough as it is colourful.

Cross Hills isn’t just gardens and a nursery — it’s a family legacy.

The Wilson family has called this land home since 1938, when the property began as a sheep and beef farm. Over the generations, it’s blossomed into a nationally recognised garden and specialist nursery, lovingly shaped by family hands. 🌸

Today, Scott and Angela Wilson continue the tradition, running the sheep and beef farm while raising strong, healthy Rhododendrons and Azaleas on the very land Scott grew up on — now shared with garden visitors, plant centre customers, and fairgoers from across New Zealand.
