Rahere: The journey to a garden In 2017 we bought Rahere, an 1887 villa in Kiwitea with a once grand garden in need of restoration.

Dug up the lawn here to prepare the soil for a springtime mini wildflower meadow. I’m slowly, slowly creating more flower beds and less lawn. Which will hopefully mean more bees, good bugs and seed heads for the birds.

Does anyone else enjoy the budding, on the cusp stage of flowering rather than full bloom? Or is it just me? I’m hoping ...

My most successful and all time favourite garden bed. It brings me so much joy!!!! I haven’t touched it since I sowed the seeds yet there is very little w**d and it just keeps flowering. The best results for the least work. . Yay!!!!

When I put them all together I have rather a lot of roses! Still a few more to put out their first blooms. I’d say 10 of these are original Rahere roses and the rest are ones I have put in. A few gorgeous gifted ones in there from Greenhaugh Gardens too.

New garden bed in the making. A mirror of a bed Sam and I dug last year on the other side of the house. This one won’t be a rose bed like the other one, I’ll fill it with perennials in pastel and apricot hues. That’s the plan anyway, I am notorious at biffing in bright colours so we will see if I can have some restraint 😆
