Part one of this transformation. This room was previously used as a storage space but is being upgraded to a dressing room for a mini master suite in this Featherston home.

New insulation, gib, cove, skirtings and doorway have been fitted to match the rest of the house then the whole thing painted in neutral colours that can be dressed as liked when the new vanity, mirror and soft furnishings are moved in. New lighting and plenty of plug points make this such a useable space.

A long job but totally worth it. This hallway had suffered badly at the paws of a particularly destructive cat and was in need of a total makeover.

Six layers of wallpaper were removed, the gib was repaired and then skimmed to create a smooth surface for paint. The cove and ceiling were restored and finally everything was painted or varnished in a neutral palette to bring light to the space. New ceiling lights and plug points (thanks to A&K A&K Plumbing and electrical) complete the look.

Enclosing a car port this week. This kind of space is much more useful if it is a bit more weather proof, and adding a wall on the long side will help with that. The wall has been framed out and grooved ply added as cladding which will be painted. Nice.

So. Much. Wallpaper!

This Carterton home has been on the rough end of an extremely destructive cat; the wallpaper and even the gib underneath has been destroyed by scratching and claw marks. This hallway is in for a major renovation, but first all that old wallpaper had to come off, and there were six layers of it! And, to help even more, one of the layers had been painted. Three days on the end of a steamer pulled four big black bin bags of wallpaper off.

Now we can start with the fun stuff, repairing the ceiling and walls to bring this hallway back to its former glory. Check back in a few weeks to see the finished product.

This was a lot of work! A couple of weeks to transform this Carterton bedroom into a light bright space.

An unwanted cupboard has been taken out, and the damaged walls and ceiling have been repaired and skimmed.
The unwanted electrics have been safely removed by A&K Plumbing and electrical, who also replaced the remaining plug points and light switch face plates.

A fresh coat of paint or varnish on everything brings this room up to the standard of the rest of the house

Gibbing a doorway. This opening was originally to have a door and frame fitted, but now will just be a walk through opening so needs finishing. Metal corners help to protect the edges of the doorway from damage as people walk through, the plaster will blend everything into a seamless, crisp finish when painted. It's going to look great.

If you zoom in a bit on the first photo, you can see the ceiling in this bathroom has been textured - not just the ceiling, but the cove as well. That presents a couple of problems (a) it's really hard to keep clean and (b) it looks a bit odd, making the room feel smaller somehow.

Solution? Pull off the cove, square stop the corners, skim the texture then paint the lot with mould resistant paint. Fix the walls and paint them using a warm cream colour to complement the white tiles for a refreshed bathroom that looks bigger, brighter, and is easier to clean.
