After 51 years of 261 Taradale road being a garden centre its almost at a end, created by Nel Sang and opened as Sangs Garden centre in 1971 owned for over a decade and then sold on to Wayne Lovejoy and it became Tamatea Greenworld whom owned it for over a decade also, to then be sold to Hayden Durant in 2006 and it became The Garden Depot Napier, John Dinnis became the new owner in 2010 and then we took over it in 2016 to now.
This place has brought many jobs to our community, supported local schools, daycares , kindergartens , clubs and other organisations with many fundraisers/events.
We have customers still coming in to this day 40+ years of being loyal kind customers , our lovely loyal staff member Gay has been an employee for an amazing 34 years and her knowledge and absolutely brilliant work ethic will be sadly missed by us all,
the wonderful creator of this place itself Nel Sang will be here to see off the place she created 51 years ago, we invite all past staff members, friends , family and loyal customers to attend this day for a shared lunch and enjoy the past memories of 261 Taradale road as a garden centre before its all gone!

After many decades, and a few business names, the garden centre at 261 Taradale Road is finally closing down.

We have been unable to renew our lease with the site now earmarked for a new housing development. While we are disappointed by this outcome, we do want to thank our Landlords for being very supportive during the challenging COVID disruptions of the last few years.

We took over the store in 2016 full of hope and promise to keep the lovely store, staff, and plants thriving. In an already tough industry, COVID meant we didn't stand a chance of succeeding.

We are forever thankful to our hard working staff who have been aware of the situation, but continued to show up every day with a positive mindset.

We will continue trading 7-days a week at all normal hours while we sell down our large inventory. This is where your help will be needed. Please come visit our store and take advantage of our sell-down discounts.

Please also share our news with your friends and family and encourage them to come in for a final shop at a store that has long term landmark in Tamatea.

Our seedling house and bagged soil will remain fully stocked until the very end. If there is any space in your vegetable gardens or a spot that could use some colourful flowers, please come and buy a couple more punnets. Every little bit will make a crucial difference.
