After talking with builders and architects, we identified a common weak spot in the thermal envelope of many new builds in the area.

Working alongside Terra Lana, we have developed a cold corner strip designed to be installed before the building wrap. Cold corners can create weak spots in the thermal envelope of a new build, allowing heat to escape where standard insulation can be hard to fit properly.

Available in 90x45mm and 140x45mm options, this is a practical solution for better-performing new builds.

Paul Brockie from Absolute Energy recently spoke at the Nelson Master Builders members breakfast, discussing insulation solutions, with the focus on how builders can address cold corners using our Cold Corner Terra Lana Solution, which is designed to be installed in building corners before the building wrap goes on, helping maintain the integrity of the thermal envelope. It is available in two sizes, 90x45mm and 140x45mm, to suit different framing requirements.

We sat down with Oscar from the Bowater Motor Group in Nelson last week to talk over the acoustic insulation project we completed at their Toyota service centre on Vanguard Street.

The team were finding it hard to hear customers clearly during heavy rain, to the point where it was almost impossible to have a conversation in person or on the phone while it rained. In fact, Oscar, the store manager, had to sit in a car with the doors closed to make an outgoing phone call.

The problem was that there was no acoustic barrier at all. After assessing the situation, we came up with a 70mm polyester product, which was cut and installed to fit the roof cavity between the purlins. This created an acoustic barrier that reduced the rain noise and made the service centre much more comfortable for staff and customers.

As an added benefit, the insulation has also improved the thermal efficiency of the showroom. Since the insulation went in, the space now contains heat much better.

At Absolute Energy, we are proud to work with partners like Terra Lana Products Ltd, and together we are committed to returning unused wool insulation to the production line to help create a truly circular manufacturing system.

Up to 50% of New Zealand’s landfill waste comes from the construction and demolition industry, a challenge Terra Lana is actively working to reduce.
Terra Lana operates a zero waste policy using a circular, closed loop manufacturing model. Their products are made from natural, sustainably sourced wool and predominantly recycled materials. Their manufacturing processes and recycling programme are designed to deliver better environmental outcomes.

We are always looking at how we can do better on every job, not just in how we install insulation, but in how we handle materials from start to finish.

If you are thinking about upgrading your insulation, talk to us about options that support a warmer home and a more sustainable approach.

A new heating system can help, but if your home is losing heat through the ceiling, floor, or walls, you are paying to heat air that does not stay inside.

Insulation comes first because it helps hold warmth in, supports more even temperatures, and takes pressure off your heating system. Get the shell of your home right first, then your heating can do its job properly.

If your home still feels cold, it may be time to check your insulation. Contact Absolute Energy to book an assessment.
