Please take note that buildings in association with a dwelling that is less than 1m from the property boundary [e.g. shed], although can be exempt from applying for a building consent, shall comply with the building code, particularly NZBC C3 Fire affecting areas beyond the source and C6 Structural stability; thus, requires a firewall with post-fire structure.

Changes to Schedule 1 of the Building Act commenced on Thursday 23 October 2025.
