We're incredibly proud to share that Eagars Funerals has been recognised with both a Commercial Architecture Award and a Resene Colour Award at the Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZ Institute of Architects Western Branch Awards.

This project was shaped by a collective commitment to creating a place of dignity, warmth, and reflection for the Taranaki community. Awards such as these are never the result of one team alone, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed to bringing this vision to life.

A sincere thank you to our clients for their trust and belief in the process, and to the wider project team including Livingstone Building NZ, BTW Company Ltd Michael Mansvelt Design Ltd for their expertise and collaboration throughout the project

We also acknowledge the many consultants, suppliers, contractors, and craftspeople whose skill and dedication helped realise the project.

Thank you to the awards jury and congratulations to all recipients recognised this year. We are honoured to see Eagars Funerals celebrated among such inspiring work.

The Story Behind VOID

VOID began with a simple belief I’ve carried throughout my career — that the most powerful part of architecture isn’t what we add, but what we shape.

The name itself has stayed with me for over ten years. Long before the practice was reimagined, I was drawn to the word “VOID” as the right name for an architectural studio. It felt honest and deliberate — a quiet acknowledgement that architecture begins with space. When the time came to evolve the practice from Jackson Architects into something more aligned with how I see architecture today, there was no other name that felt as true.

To me, a void is not emptiness. It is the space that holds light, frames movement, and creates pause. It is where life happens. Over time, I found myself less interested in surface expression and more drawn to the quiet moments in a building — the way a room feels at a certain time of day, the way circulation unfolds, the way proportion creates calm. VOID reflects that shift in focus.
This rebrand is not a departure from the foundations of the practice, but a refinement of them. It marks a clearer expression of our values — clarity, restraint, rigour, and enduring design. Founding VOID was about creating space — both literally and professionally — to design with intention and precision.

VOID reflects how I approach architecture: considered, confident, and grounded in the belief that space itself is the starting point.

Eagars Funerals
From the very first idea, this building was designed to soothe.
Warm timber, honest stone, gentle light, and quiet water come together to create spaces that feel calm, grounded, and deeply connected. Private corners and open rooms, nature woven in, shelter and welcome all at once. It is a place to pause, reflect, and find peace — a gift to the community, built with care, dignity, and compassion.
An absolute pleasure to have been apart of the project
