Olearia virgata in flower, one of many host trees and shrubs in the arboretum relishing in all this rainfall we've been having of late.

Initially propagated from a stem cutting, this species flowers profusely in a weeping stature..

It's really fulfilling to see the arboretum starting to fully establish after it was planted over the two covid lockdowns in 2020 and 2021.

Olearia virgata is available in a PB5 grade @ $7.99 while stocks last.

H: 3.5 meters
W: 2 meters

Freezing southerly winds today out on Te Horo beach, preparing a east facing hillside for a tapestry of Kanuka, Manuka, Pittosporom tenufolium, Akeake, Ngaio and Harakeke..

The noise of the pine trees overhead this afternoon felt like a biblical severing of the ocean, with the thoughts of limbs snapping off at any one moment.

330 are going in from top to bottom in this section which was once a overgrown haven of long and invasive Nasella trichotoma tussock.

Feeling close to concluding this 2000 plant project on the dunes of Te Horo Beach before Spring really kicks into gear.

I'm excited to see this whole area come to life and will be doing a more detailed site debriefing with a drone perspective to really encapsulate the surrounding scale of the intersecting pieces to this dunescape puzzle.

Residential reforestation..

Prepping an inland eastern orientated hillside of a sand dune here in Te Horo beach today following a brutal day of scrub cutting.

This location overlooks a lowland swamp plain area, reminiscent of a natural amphitheatre with its stunning rural views and topography..

335 ready for planting which will consist of coastal and frost tolerant species which are naturalised here in Kapiti and will adapt well in sand.

How about this weather??

There have been pearlers each an every day this week 🏞️

Hope everyone's having a great week.

Site prep before / after at Te Horo beach..

Definitely the thickest Kikuya i have ever had to remove, which was up to stomach height.

Kikuyu grass, introduced from Kenya, is comparable to never ending sponge with its cross hatched rhizhomes, devouring light and inhibiting all endemic vegetation establishing as it spreads up and out upon the dunes here in Te Horo.

800 + set to go in on this North East facing 4pt dunescape, its the ideal time to plant being in the depth of winter.

Shout out to Shindaiwa 🇯🇵

Bookings still available for all scrub cutting, site prep, planting and design consultation this winter.

This restoration project pictured in Pekapeka involved a shelter belt of 50 year old pines felled earlier in the year creating an acidic / allopathic soil structure.

A diverse new arrangement of native flora has been newly orchestrated on this 733m2 area to create shelter for a newly proposed orchard to the north.

I'm really excited to see this site establish in the near future with a review every 6 months.

Bookings are available now for any mass planting projects you have in mind for this year, whatever the substrate i stock a wide range of native trees / shrubs / tussock to revitalise retired dairy allotments and marginal rural land.

Get in touch today and make an appointment to come and see me at the nursery to discuss plants, projects, cost and logistics.

All initial on site consultations free of charge.

Site preparation / Section clearing.

This 189m2 area is situated on sand dunes in Otaki, constantly exposed to north westerly winds.

These vectors show the contour of the north facing dunescape, where a plant key and quantity list will begin.

Im currently available for consultations on the Kapiti Coast and Wellington region as we venture into the planting seasons until Spring.

Please get in touch if you require any native restoration planting this year including riparian, coastal dunescape, forest margins and any suburban amenity sites.

Available for appointment on weekends at the nursery.

( Ps, there is no charge for all intital consultation and site assesment ).
