Our current commissions spread from Hamilton in the north to Wanaka in the south. Our design philosophy is to produce a building which fully acknowledges the challenges and requi

It’s the final pieces that bring everything together.

On site recently, looking at the finishing touches—carpet meeting skirting, colours aligning across spaces, light hitting corners just as intended. Individually, they’re small moments. Together, they complete the picture.

At this stage, it often feels a bit like a game of Tetris. Each element has its place, and when it all clicks, the space finally makes sense.

Good design isn’t just in the big moves—it’s in how every detail fits, aligns, and holds together.

Always satisfying seeing it come to life.

Great to see this project all finished and settled in—awesome work by SMB Contracting 👏

This was a unique design for a truly unique site, shaped by a brief that embraced creativity. The client loved the quirkiness of angles and unexpected spaces, which became a defining part of the design and gave the home its own distinct character.

Even better to see it now feeling like home and being so well loved. 🏡✨

🌾 A Moment on Site 🏡

There’s something special about standing on site and taking it all in. Last week, surrounded by open farmland and big skies, we spent time walking through the earthworks and imagining what’s to come.

You start to picture it—the new addition settling naturally into place, strengthening the connection to the existing home, and framing those views to be enjoyed every day.

It’s these moments that bring a project to life—refining the details and ensuring the design truly belongs to its surroundings.

✏️ Flashback to the Drawing Board! 📐

Before CAD and 3D modelling, this was the toolkit of every architect — compasses, rulers, stencils, and a trusty pencil or two. 🧠✨

Technology has come a long way since then, but some things never change — a hand-drawn sketch is still one of the best ways to quickly explore ideas and bring concepts to life.

Sometimes, the simplest tools are still the most powerful. 💡

🚁 Spot the Drone! 👀

We spent some time out in the field last week with CD Surveys, who were putting the latest drone technology to work capturing a detailed survey plan for one of our upcoming projects. 📸✈️

It’s the perfect technique for tricky or hard-to-access sites, giving us the accuracy we need to start each project off right.

Whether it’s a site measure, site survey, or council records, having the right information from the start is just as important as the project brief itself. ✅
