Meet The Team: Joel Currie - Committed to Quality Trees and Happy Customers 🌳
What does a typical day look like?
No two days are quite the same. I spend my time helping customers, preparing quotes, coordinating orders, and working with suppliers to keep things running smoothly. I also work closely with our production and logistics teams to ensure plants are ready when needed and delivered on time.
What are your favourite trees to recommend?
It's hard to choose a favourite when I get to see so many varieties throughout the seasons at Leafland. I tend to gravitate towards trees that provide year-round interest, particularly those with beautiful spring flowers and striking autumn colour. Pyrus, Cercis, and Flowering Cherries are always standouts for me.
What makes you proud of Leafland's Australian Street Tree Standard programme?
The Australian Street Tree Standard is all about growing better trees with strong structure and healthy root systems. We've invested a huge amount of time into adapting our production systems to meet these standards, and I'm proud of the progress we've made.
What's your vision for Leafland's future?
The future is exciting. As a family business with three sons involved, there's a great opportunity for the next generation to build on what has already been achieved. Our focus remains the same: growing quality specimen trees and continuing to meet the needs of our customers.
If you weren't at Leafland, what would you be doing?
I'd probably be farming, playing sport, or doing something else outdoors. I've always enjoyed being active and spending time outside, so I'd likely be in a role that combines those interests. Fortunately, working with trees and being part of the nursery industry gives me the best of both worlds.
