Classic Curves, Modern Craft

Once a defining feature of mid-century pool design, the kidney shape remains an enduring classic. This refurbishment honours that legacy - preserving the pool’s iconic form while elevating it with a clean, modern finish and renewed performance.

The homeowners engaged us to assess options for their aging kidney-shaped concrete pool, weighing up relocation versus refurbishment.

Once it was established they’d keep the original shape, the focus for the project shifted to honouring the original character of the pool while bringing it into a modern context. The goal was to achieve a high-end, “like-new” finish while improving durability, waterproofing, and overall functionality.

“At one point, we even thought about moving the pool – but we’re so pleased we didn’t. By resurfacing the pool and removing the terracotta and replacing it with crazy paving, it all brought it to life. It completely modernised the area to suit the house. It feels like a brand-new pool… now we spend a lot of time there in the evenings.”

From Dated to Dreamy ✨

"We’re absolutely thrilled with the pool renovation and couldn’t be happier with the end result. The new steps have been a standout feature for us - making it much safer and far more accessible for our kids, while also giving us real peace of mind day-to-day. We love the colour choice and the overall finish; it’s completely transformed the space and feels like a proper upgrade to how we use our outdoor area. The team were fantastic to deal with from start to finish - professional, dedicated, and easy to work with - and communication was clear and consistent throughout the whole process. It’s made a big difference to how we use the pool as a family, and we’d highly recommend Sophie, Pita and their team to anyone considering a renovation".

What started as an ageing concrete pool and disconnected outdoor space is now a modern, cohesive area designed for both family life and entertaining.

We completely refreshed the pool with a new fibreglass interior in Karekare, a deep, rich grey that ties beautifully into the home and established landscaping. With young kids in mind, we reworked the entry entirely, removing the old external steps and creating a generous internal shelf and step area. Perfect for relaxing, playing, and everyday use. We also added new LED lighting to take the space into the evening, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere once the sun goes down.

New coping, a mix of aluminium and glass fencing, and a seamless connection through to the new decking have completely transformed how this space functions. It now flows effortlessly from the home out to the pool - exactly how it should.
