Is your backyard slowly trying to escape into the neighbour's section? 🏔️👀

With winter on the way, those damp Manawatū conditions are about to put a lot of pressure on old, tired retaining walls around Palmy. If yours is already looking less like a wall and more like a banana, it’s only a matter of time before a heavy downpour turns it into a mudslide.

We just sorted this one out. Ripped out the old, buckling timber and replaced it with a heavy-duty setup built to handle the heavy clay and the wet. Proper drainage included so it stays dead-straight for decades.

If you’ve got a wall that’s looking a bit suspect, don’t wait until you're shoveling mud off your driveway in July.

Bit of a heads up for the Palmy locals...

We’ve had a few decent days lately, but we all know those Manawatū winds are starting to gear up. If you’ve got a fence that’s been leaning or a gate that’s a mission to close, it’s only going to get worse once the ground gets a proper soaking and the wind starts howling across the flats.

There’s nothing worse than a boundary fence coming down in a big blow and having to chase the dog or the kids down the street in the rain.

I’m out pricing up a few jobs around Kelvin Grove and Roslyn this week. If you want me to swing by and have a proper squiz at yours, flick me a message or a text on 028 471 2966.

No corporate fluff, just a straight-up price to get it sorted before winter really hits.

Happy to come have a look and give you a straight answer on what it’ll take to sort it.

Autumn always seems to show up the dodgy fences around Palmy…

Bit of a heads up — we’ve had a few calls lately where people are noticing posts leaning, gates dropping, or panels starting to move after summer.

Usually, it’s not one big thing, just timber getting tired, a bit of wind, and the ground shifting a bit.

Then autumn rain hits, and everything starts showing up at once.

If your fence has been “sort of fine” but not quite right, it’s probably worth a look before winter properly sets in.

We’re around Palmerston North and nearby if you want us to check anything 👍

Improve Property Security with Quality Fencing in Palmy

Let’s be honest, a fence in the Manawatū isn’t just about marking where your lawn ends and the neighbour’s begins. Whether you’re dealing with the wind whistling through Roslyn or just want a bit of peace and quiet in Hokowhitu, your boundary is your first line of defence.

If your current setup is looking a bit "she’ll-be-right"—leaning over, gate dragging, or pickets gone walkabout—it’s doing more than just looking knackered. It’s a literal gap in your home’s security.

Why local homeowners are upgrading their security fencing in Palmerston North right now:

Privacy that actually works: Tired of the whole street knowing what’s for dinner? A solid timber or modern slat fence gives you your backyard back.

Keeping the team safe: If you’ve got young ones or a dog that thinks he’s an escape artist, a sturdy, secure perimeter is non-negotiable.

Adding Value: A sharp, well-installed fence adds serious kerb appeal and value to your property.

Palmy Tough: We build them to handle the local gusts and the damp winters, so you aren't out there fixing it again in two seasons.

We don’t do "cookie-cutter" jobs. We’ll come round, have a proper squiz at your section, and give you a straight-up quote that makes sense. From classic timber to high-security metal options, we’ll get it sorted once and get it sorted right.

Shared Boundary Fences – What Palmy Homeowners Need to Know 🛠️

Right, who actually owns the fence?

We’ve all been there. You’re out the back with a brew, looking at a boundary fence that’s leaning more than a student after a long night at the Speight’s Ale House. You want it fixed before the next big Manawatū gust sends it into the neighbour's veggie patch, but you’re not sure who’s picking up the tab.

Whether you’re dealing with the clay in Kelvin Grove, a tight boundary in Terrace End, or those classic sections in Hokowhitu, here’s the straight talk:

The 50/50 Split: Under the Fencing Act 1978, you and your neighbour usually share the cost of an "adequate" fence. It doesn't have to be a fortress, just something that does the job.

The "Fencing Notice": You can’t just build it and drop a bill in their letterbox. You’ve gotta give the neighbour 21 days' notice. If they don’t object in writing, you’re usually sweet to get cracking.

PNCC Rules: Don’t go too high! If you're planning anything over 2 metres, you’ll likely need a building consent from the Palmerston North City Council.

Built Manawatū-Tough: If you’re building in Palmy, you need deep posts and solid rails. That wind coming off the ranges isn't a joke, and a "cheap" fence is just a kite in waiting.

Pro Tip: Have a yarn over the boundary first. A quick chat is way better (and cheaper) than a scrap in the Disputes Tribunal.

Got a fence in Ashhurst, Milson, or Highbury that’s seen better days?

Drop a comment below or flick us a message. We know the Palmy ground conditions and the local rules better than anyone. Let’s get it sorted properly.

Another solid boundary fence sorted in Hokowhitu this week. 🔨

The old one was well past its use-by date—leaning over, rotting out, and not doing much for the property value. We’ve come in, cleared the old mess, and put up a freshy that’ll actually stand the test of time (and the Palmy wind).

Massive difference to the street appeal and it keeps the dogs and the kids exactly where they’re supposed to be. Nothing fancy, just a bloody good fence done right the first time.

If you’re around Hokowhitu or anywhere in Palmy and your boundary is looking a bit tragic, flick me a message or a photo of the line. I’ll come round, have a look, and give you a price. Easy as.

Why we still swear by timber in Palmy...

There’s a bloody good reason you see timber fences from Hokowhitu to Highbury. Modern stuff comes and goes, but a proper timber fence is still the best bet for a Manawatū backyard.

Let’s be honest, our weather is a bit of a nightmare. Between those classic Palmy gales and the damp winters, a cheap fence just won't cut it.

Why we’re still building them out of wood in 2026:

It handles the wind: Unlike those thin metal ones that rattle all night and drive you mad, a solid paling fence actually stays put when the wind howls.

Real privacy: If you’re in a new build in Whakarongo or a classic section in Terrace End, you want to let the dog out without the neighbors watching your every move.

Built to last: We use high-grade H3.2 and H4 treated timber. This Manawatū soil is heavy and wet—if you don't use the good stuff, it'll rot out in no time.

We’re out doing quotes across Palmy, Ashhurst, and Feilding this week.

Pool Fencing Compliance in Palmerston North – Are You Covered? 👮‍♂️🏊‍♂️

PNCC rules are strict, and a non-compliant pool fence isn't just a safety risk—it can lead to hefty fines and failed inspections.

Warped timber, gates that don't self-latch, or gaps that have widened over time are the most common reasons Palmerston North pool owners get flagged.

Is your fence up to the NZ Building Code? We specialize in compliant pool fencing that looks great and passes inspection the first time. Whether you're in Hokowhitu, Aigburth, or Milson, we can help.

Want a quick compliance check? 1️⃣ Snap a photo of your current pool gate and fencing. 📸 2️⃣ Click the 'Send Message' button below. 💬 3️⃣ Send us the photo + your address. 📍
