Opinion: A worm farm and nutrients are a great combination for the vegetable garden.

I had a ‘CanOWorms’ worm farm for about 16 years. Like a lot of kiwi guys, I lost the instructions after the initial set up and then flew by the seat of my pants until one day I was surprised to find many pumpkin plants and one tomato plant flourishing in what I subsequently learnt were worm castings. The tomato plant continued to surpass my store bought plants in the greenhouse and produced a prolific harvest.
I found the worm farming instructions on line and gradually became hooked on worm propagation and development. A passion for creating compost led me to wanting more worms and by exploring the wisdom of worm gurus on line has helped me to develop a thriving worm nursery, and we are enjoying the abundant benefits of worm castings and worm juice in our most recently constructed raised vegetable garden. These initial forays have grown into learning more and more about worm breeding and nutrition.
My grandchildren want to know what I have named the squirmy creatures that they also find fascinating. Like dad jokes, there are worm jokes, but not for now! I’m learning everyday. Thinking I am now able to sell some of these worms and their products, so starting to venture in that area. I’m learning all the time, I enjoy gleaning ideas and knowledge from those who are further on this journey than myself. Starting this page for like minded people to learn together..
