Spring prep at Troppo 🌱🌧️

Rain’s on the way, so I’ve been out giving the whole food forest a bit of a boost — a light sprinkle of magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts), then hardwood pellets and wood shavings I had sitting around from mushroom-growing supplies, all tucked into the already thick mulch layer.

Nothing fancy. Just clean hardwood carbon that can swell, break down, feed the soil biology and fungi, and help that mulch hold onto more moisture.

Part garden maintenance, part spring preparation, part clearing crap out of the garage. 😂

With the possibility of a hot, dry summer ahead, I’m trying to capture as much of this spring moisture in the soil as possible. Thick mulch keeps the ground cooler, reduces evaporation, builds organic matter and gives the food forest a much bigger water reserve when the rain eventually disappears.

Waste nothing. Feed the soil. Catch the rain while it’s here.
And somehow reclaim a few square metres of garage at the same time. 😂🌱
