We built this garden for a family wanting to increase their food production, taking inspiration from hΓΌgelkultur and 'dead hedge' practices. It was constructed using sticks and branches from the property, filled with leaf and lawn clippings, and is now bursting with winter crops and flowers. πŸ₯¬πŸ₯¦
This sort of garden evolves with the seasons and can be added to as branches fall and leaves break down and create a rich, nutrient filled soil. Growing produce doesn't need to be expensive or complicated when nature gives us everything we need. πŸ’šπŸŒ

Six months of growth on this garden design and planting in Titirangi. 🌱
Here we focused on softness, warm tones and native grasses to absorb water in this very wet spot. Just love watching our gardens grow in and fill out - can't wait to see this in another six months!

Our topiary master Max has spent years honing his skills to give you perfectly balanced and even topiaries, every time. This was our second visit at this property, and after creating a uniform size and shape last time, trimming these up was a breeze! 🍭🌳

This is our stump garden at home - affectionately called the "flower pit". While the stump slowly decays it becomes food and habitat for insects, bacteria and fungi, larger pieces break off and become mulch for our path, and the flowers attract bees and bugs to pollinate our vegetable flowers. Nature is awesome! πŸ˜„πŸŒ»πŸŒΈπŸ

We used volcanic rock to create negative space and visual interest, and as a buffer for the tap overflow. Native lobelia was chosen to soften the edges of the paving, and soft grasses play in the wind and contrast the brick work. 🌬🌾 Funny how the little spaces and odd sections in gardens work their way into your heart!

Wishing everyone a very happy New Year! πŸ₯³
We had a great few weeks off resting, reading, relaxing and working in our own garden for a change! We have been experimenting with the berm at home, growing out the "weeds" and letting them flower. We are passionate about providing habitat and food for insects and birds, and have loved seeing an increase in bees in our tiny meadow (and having them come over into our vege garden!) 🐝
