It is amazing to see birds that birds don't mind my presence. I don't use my fountain in winter but I fill the bowl up with water for birds. They absolutely love having a bath there! This blackbird was bathing there while I was working on my cedar . I managed to take a photo of it when it was leaving. Bonsai is not only about growing trees that look like a piece of art, it is also an observation of the beauty of nature around you.

It was such a beautiful day today! And so productive with repotting a lot of trees and prebonsai!
I found this little Pohutukawa in Napier. It was growing in a tiny gap between someone's fence and asphalt so I decided to take it home. It survived 4 hours back in a water bottle and then a couple of weeks in that bottle when I completely forgot about it. Now it is happy to be living on a rock hugging it with its roots.
Amazing vigorous tree!

The second photo was made in Napier not far from where I found this Pohutukawa.

Botanical gardens are always a big inspiration. Different tree shapes, trunk movements.. it almost feels like it is possible to see the trees of almost all bonsai styles!
