Useful tips for growing irises

I spent three years staring at a bed of iris foliage and wondering what I'd done wrong. Beautiful, healthy, sword-shaped leaves every single spring, and not one flower. I'd fertilized them, watered them, left them completely alone — nothing worked. Turns out the answer was something I never would have guessed, and it goes against the instinct of basically every gardener I've ever talked to. Irises are supposed to be the tough ones. The ones that practically grow themselves. And they are — but they have very specific opinions about a few things, and if you get even one of them wrong, you get a gorgeous clump of leaves and absolutely nothing else. The most common culprit isn't pests, it isn't disease, and it isn't the weather. It's something you can see with your own eyes if you know what to look for. Hydrangea Annabelle at its best! These plants have been flowering now for over a month and still look stunning.
These ones are growing in full sun and cope amazingly, prefer shade or semishade. We do water regularly which they need! Great as picked flower, lasts for ages!

Lysimachia clethroides, commonly known as Gooseneck or Loosestrife. It definitely looks like a gooseneck, I love this perennial. It isn’t invasive in my garden, likes sun but grows well in semi shade and moist rich soils. I have it growing in my white garden and last autumn popped some in this garden. Florists love it as picks well. A favourite of mine!

We are making progress, today we made the path with lime chip.
Then planted heaps of perennials that will hopefully grow quickly and cover the ground. A few more still to plant.
