This concept explores the refurbishment of an existing marae - reimagined to better support the cultural and spiritual needs of its people, both now and into the future.

The design creates a series of connected spaces for gathering, reflection and everyday use, while remaining grounded in the identity and values of the marae.

Careful consideration has been given to how the space feels to move through - open and welcoming.

A design shaped by community, guided by tikanga.

We look forward to seeing this kaupapa evolve from concept to reality in the near future.

At Darin Grant Design, we know that when a marae looks to rebuild, it’s never just about the structure, it’s about legacy, wairua, and the collective future of the whānau who belong to it.

We’re proud to be supporting Wainui Marae - Haahi Rīngatū in the redesign of their new marae complex. This next phase acknowledges the whakapono and identity of the people, while creating a safe, enduring space that will carry their kaupapa forward.

We carry these responsibilities with care and conviction. The kōrero, the whenua, the tikanga - all of it shapes how we design.

Standing tall and watchful, this tekoteko marks the future site of the new Rangatira Marae.

After the devastation of Cyclone Gabrielle and the flooding that impacted Te Karaka, the decision was made to relocate Rangatira Marae to higher ground. A place of safety, resilience, and renewal.

We’re proud to be leading the design of the new marae complex, a space that will honour the past, serve the present, and protect generations to come. Construction is set to begin at the end of August 2025.

This is more than a build. It’s a return, a response, and a reimagining.

We’re proud to be partnering with Central Kids Early Learning Centre – Tokoroa on the design of their brand-new centre development. This project will see a complete rebuild of the facility, including thoughtfully designed indoor learning spaces and a revitalised outdoor play area.

It’s a privilege to work alongside a kaupapa that puts tamariki at the heart of everything, and we’re excited to bring a fresh, functional, and inspiring space to life for the Tokoroa community.

DGD is humbled and excited to be the design team supporting the redevelopment of the historic buildings at Rātana Pā. This project will help preserve and strengthen these structures that hold deep cultural, spiritual, and historical significance.

It’s a privilege to contribute to a space that brings thousands together each year and continues to play a vital role in our nation’s story. We’re looking forward to walking alongside the Rātana community on this important journey.

The funding will be used to make structural upgrades including improvements to two of the Rangitīkei settlement's main buildings.

We're excited to share that Darin Grant Design is working on a special project at Kauriki Marae.
We're making important upgrades, including new wharepaku facilities, covered accessibility access, and a complete refurbishment of the dining room and kitchen. Plus, we’re adding a new whānau and kaumātua room.
Our goal as always is to honour the mana and heritage of every marae we work with while blending tradition with modern functional design.
We look forward to enhancing these spaces where people can continue to gather, celebrate, and connect for generations to come.
