Salvage garden

Salvage garden Salvage - to collect or rescue, or to save something from harm or ruin.

A love for a quirky pot destined for landfill, or to languish on an op shop shelf, and the inability to leave any plant behind has led to the happy marriage of Salvage Garden.

COMING SOON...

Winter saw the arrival of a new baby and so the plant babies and Salvage Garden lacked a bit of attention! But with spring comes beautiful new growth and a renewed excitement for this project, and I hope to bring everything to the markets before too long. I will do some listing here beforehand in case there’s something you’re desperate for! 🌱

Hey guys! Lockdown has meant that I couldn’t go to the Taupo markets today for the first planned “Green Flea” event - a flea market specifically for upcyled/recycled & repurposed items. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can enjoy events like that again! In the meantime I’ve had fun getting lots of goodies ready, planting up a load of cuttings (imperial green philodendrons, marble queen pothos, peace lily, peperomia, elephant ears, heart leaf philodendron, bubble plant, string of pearls, and some peperomia varieties) and getting my little succulent planters ready and growing. Although now I have run out of pots and potting mix 😝

Take a look, I’ll add descriptions in the captions 🌱

Huge elephant ears! 🌱 these have been grown from rescued seedlings and rootstock in recycled containers, now with 3+ big beautiful leaves. Ranging from 75-85cm (not including pot) $75 each. 5 available.

These make a great indoor plant, simply repot in a nice planter or pop inside a basket. They can happily live outside but are very frost tender so best to keep inside or in a sheltered spot over winter. The big leaves can be damaged when it’s really windy but it that happens, they are very fast growing and soon you will be able to cut off any damaged leaves as they are replaced by new ones.

Some little cuties coming up for sale. All pots were found in local op shops and repurposed to make these little arrangements. Details in captions, comment if you’d like one! 🌵

🌵Being succulents these require infrequent watering. Try giving it a decent drink once a week in summer and far less in winter. Be careful not to give too much water though as most of these pots do not have drainage holes.

🌵Your arrangement will enjoy a sunny window sill but protect from too much direct sun outside as succulents can burn. Too little light will cause some of the varieties to stretch out tall with big gaps between the leaves.

🌵Eventually you may find some of the succulents want to outgrow your container. You can trim them back, or remove completely and repot a smaller part of the succulent. They regrow really easily!

🌵Lastly, you may get a surprise with some varieties as the weather cools, many will turn pink if they are allowed to feel the change in temperature! 😍
