🚀 REAL-TIME BOAT FAIRING

No speed-up. No time-lapse. No dramatic edits.

Just 2 minutes and 51 seconds of fairing the Vitesse hull by hand.

In this clip I'm working the port-side flare with a sanding board, listening to the sound of the paper, feeling for high and low spots, and slowly bringing the hull back into shape.

Fairing is one of those jobs that looks simple from a distance, but it takes patience and countless hours to get right.

How long do you think it took to fair this whole side of the boat?

πŸ”΄ ENGINEERED STONE CHIP REPAIR πŸ”΄

This benchtop had a noticeable chip that needed repairing.

To get a good match, I mixed Tenax repair resin with red pigment until the colour matched the stone, then added hardener and carefully filled the damaged area.

Once cured, the repair was scraped flush, sanded, and polished back to blend in with the surrounding surface.

A small repair like this can make a huge difference to the finished appearance of a benchtop.

πŸ”¨ TIMBER TABLE TOP BUILD – PART 3 πŸ”¨
The final stage of this custom timber table top build.
After glue-up and clamping in Part 2, it was time to sand, shape and bring the timber to life. The three slabs have now come together as one solid top, ready for its new home.
It's always satisfying seeing rough timber transformed into a finished piece.
Thanks for following along with this build!

🚀 VITESSE REBUILD – PART 11

Making progress whenever the weather gives me a window!

This episode was all about fairing and preparing the hull for paint.

βœ… Port side fibreglassed
βœ… Fairing compound applied while the epoxy was still tacking off for a chemical bond
βœ… Starboard side long-board sanded and remaining low spots filled
βœ… Tested a small generator to power the belt sander on-site where there's no mains power

The belt sander made quick work of the bulk fairing compound before switching to the sanding boards to get everything fair and straight.

Slowly getting closer to the paint stage.

Using West System epoxy throughout the rebuild.

🌲 Pinecone Epoxy Coasters 🌲

Just a bit of experimenting in the workshop.

I embedded a pine cone in epoxy, machined it into a cylinder on the lathe, then sliced it into coaster-sized discs. Stack them back together and they form the original pine cone shape again.

The epoxy isn't perfectβ€”there are a few bubbles and things I'd do differently next timeβ€”but that's all part of the learning process. Sometimes you've just got to try an idea and see where it leads.

Pretty happy with how this first prototype turned out. What do you reckon?

TIMBER TABLE TOP BUILD – PART 2 πŸ”¨
Getting the slab ready for glue-up.
In this part I: βœ… Straightened the edges on the planer/jointer
βœ… Cut biscuit slots to help keep the boards aligned during glue-up
βœ… Applied West System epoxy
βœ… Clamped the three sections together ready for final sanding and shaping
The biscuits aren't for strength in this buildβ€”they simply help keep the timber flush and make assembly easier before sanding.
Part 3 coming soon where the top starts to come together.

VITESSE REBUILD – PART 10
More progress on the Vitesse rebuild.
In this episode I've shaped and planed the new stem, prepared the fibreglass on the starboard side, and applied fairing compound to start bringing everything back into shape.
A lot of time goes into the small details at this stage, but every hour gets the hull one step closer to paint.
Thanks for following along with the rebuild. Plenty more to come.
