Yomi at dusk 🍨

A small shopfront reimagined as a soft threshold between street and ritual. Arched glazing frames the interior like a series of gentle scoops - curves that echo the Froyo itself.

From the footpath, you’re drawn in by the curved planter, guiding you toward the rear wall. Timber, warm light, terrazzo textures. A central toppings bar that becomes the stage.

Playful in concept, restrained in ex*****on - designed to feel as good at 8am as it does in the evening.

Designed as a contemporary dessert destination, Yomi welcomes early mornings, hot summer days, and slow evenings alike - from açai breakfasts to intimate date-night treats.

The once open plan has been re-composed into smaller, more intimate zones using custom bench seating, layered lighting, and subtle dividers that will continue to soften as planting grows.

Material choices were intentionally limited. Travertine defines the toppings bar and curved feature walls, while timber introduces warmth and balance. Custom travertine light fittings add a quiet, sculptural presence, dimmable at night to transform the atmosphere after dark..

The process was hands-on and collaborative from the very start, with late nights on site refining details - including hand-grouting the travertine tiles with a piping bag to achieve the exact finish we were after.

Defined not by spectacle, but by care. A place to return to, again and again.

We’re hiring! One of the gals is off on Maternity leave and we’re going to be lost without her. With a busy 2026 ahead this could very likely become a more permanent position upon her return!

Flick us a DM or email Hannah to catch up for a casual coffee and no scary interview process!

As we turn off the lights this year at Studio H, I want to pause and acknowledge the people behind the work.

This year has been full - thoughtful projects, steady progress and a huge amount of care and energy poured into everything we do. I’m endlessly proud of the work that comes out of our studio, but just as often I hear how much our clients and consultants speak about how enjoyable this team is to work with. That feedback means the most.

Across the country, we’ve delivered small and large renovations, bespoke homes, retail fit-outs and developments ranging from 30 homes to well over 100. All of it driven by a small, committed group of genuinely good people.

Grateful for the trust, the collaboration and the people we get to work alongside - this is what makes the work so rewarding.

Sending our warmest wishes this holiday season from all of us at Studio H 🎄

A home is only complete once life begins to unfold within its walls.

Handed over just days ago, this coastal retreat is already being claimed by the family it was designed for - rooms filling with movement, light and laughter. Spaces crafted for calm are now becoming the backdrop to memory-making, exactly as intended.

We’re in the early concept stages for a renovation project in Te Puna. While reviewing old council records, we stumbled upon this curious image. At first glance, it seemed unrelated - an old car yard office on the corner of Cameron Road and Eleventh Avenue. But something about the roofline felt familiar. A closer look confirmed it: this was the house.

Originally built as an office for the ‘Car Court,’ the building was relocated to rural Te Puna in the 70s. Since then, it has seen several renovations, each one reflecting the changing needs of the families who lived there. Now, it’s our turn. We’re designing a new wing to the west - a peaceful retreat for a couple entering their next chapter, overlooking the pond and out to the harbour beyond.

Architecture tells stories, and this one has many layers. It’s a privilege to be apart of one.

Matamata Country Club. A community shaped by stories.

Set in the heart of the countryside, this retirement village is more than a collection of homes. Each residence is quietly tailored, reflecting the lives within - spaces for art, wine and treasured pieces that carry decades of meaning.

A privilege to design alongside each homeowner, crafting homes that feel deeply personal, yet part of something larger.

This custom folded spouting, crafted from thick steel, ensures a flawless, ripple-free finish, echoing the sharp and linear language of the architecture. Sized to align seamlessly with other flashings, it subtly reinforces the rhythm of the facade, framing the building. Set against the natural grain of cedar and the refined texture of Kahu Cladding, the interplay of materials creates a balance of softness and structure. Credit to the installer for the meticulous ex*****on, ensuring every detail meets the highest standard.

It’s been a hot minute since we shared a floor plan - something we said we’d do more often! This 4-bedroom family home is designed to celebrate the way we live, entertain, and retreat, creating a harmonious balance between function and beauty.

At its heart, a generously proportioned kitchen and scullery serve as the social hub of the home - the perfect space for everything from relaxed midweek dinners to hosting lively gatherings. Surrounding this are three distinct seating areas: a cosy nook for movie nights, a sunlit lounge ideal for quiet moments, and a formal living space for entertaining guests.

The layout seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor living, anchored by a courtyard that’s destined to feature a swimming pool. The third bedroom, overlooking this courtyard, has been thoughtfully designed to evolve into a home gym as life changes and the kids move on.

Crafted with a palette of enduring materials like western red cedar, travertine tiles, and stone benchtops, the home exudes a timeless elegance. A double garage and separate boat shed add practicality, while remaining beautifully integrated into the overall design.

This plan reflects the fluidity of modern family life, celebrating spaces that grow with their owners while staying grounded in the warmth of natural materials and thoughtful craftsmanship.

Please note: This plan has been slightly altered from the version built to respect our clients’ privacy.
