Proteas really come into their own at this time of year.
As the garden softens heading into winter, their bold flowers and sculptural form bring colour, contrast, and structure back into the landscape. On darker days especially, they seem to hold and reflect light in a unique way.
A beautiful reminder that winter gardens can still feel vibrant, textured, and alive.

Plant Focus • Camellia
A very familiar plant in New Zealand gardens, and one that can easily become overgrown if left unmanaged. But when thoughtfully maintained, Camellias bring beautiful winter colour, glossy evergreen structure, and respond exceptionally well to shaping and clipping.
Their dense growth makes them especially useful for hedging and topiary, where structure and seasonal flowering can work together beautifully.
A classic plant that rewards good pruning.

Boston Ivy is a climber known for its strong seasonal colour change before dropping its leaves for winter.
