I am excited to share with you a project that we that designed and is currently being constructed! This development consists of four stunning three-story houses, situated on a 624m2 site. Unlike typical cramped terraced housing, these homes were meticulously designed to provide ample living space for families or couples in need of a comfortable work-from-home environment.
Featuring four generously sized bedrooms, each house boasts an elevated design that offers breathtaking views from every level. The brick and aluminium cladding not only adds a touch of sophistication, but it also requires minimal maintenance with just a simple wash down.
Our focus was to balance privacy with the creation of outdoor living space, which we achieved through the use of screening and elevation techniques. The first floor deck of each of the four houses provides an outdoor living area that seamlessly extends from the indoor living space. To maximize natural daylight, all houses are oriented towards the North. Fortunately, the site's North-facing orientation allowed us to achieve both goals of capturing daylight and maintaining privacy. But what really sets these homes apart is their prime location. Situated in the heart of the city, residents can enjoy the convenience of living central without sacrificing living space. And with views of the North East skyline, including the iconic Skytower, the scenery is simply unbeatable.
These homes are not yet available for sale, but they will be hitting the market later this year.

The Matapouri beach house showcases a perfect blend of modern design and warm, welcoming elements. Its primary feature is the dark metal cladding that covers its exterior, which is paired with natural timber accents, providing a contrasting combination of soft and rigid textures.

Upon entering, one immediately feels welcomed into an open and light-filled space, with floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, inviting natural light into every corner. The interior design is minimalist, yet cozy, with a focus on clean lines and natural materials such as wood.

The living areas are designed to be adaptable and multifunctional, with an open-plan layout that allows for easy flow between spaces. The kitchen, dining, and living areas all seamlessly merge together, making it perfect for entertaining friends and family.

The bedrooms are also designed to be flexible and spacious, with room for expansion to accommodate additional guests. Each room is equipped with large windows that provide stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

The house sits nestled into the base of a hill, providing privacy and protection from the elements. The outdoor spaces are just as impressive as the interior, with a spacious deck that provides ample room for outdoor dining and relaxation. The deck is sheltered from the sun, with an overhead canopy that provides shade and warmth during the cooler months.

The decision to demolish the house was made after careful consideration of the costs and benefits. While it would have been ideal to work with the existing structure, it had deteriorated to a point where it would be more expensive to restore it than to rebuild.
By demolishing the existing house, we were able to start with a clean slate and design a new home that would meet all of our requirements. We were able to choose the incorporate the latest materials and technologies, and create a design that would maximize the use of natural light and space.
In keeping with the spirit of this old bach, we have designed a new contemporary beach house that pays homage to both the original design and the local setting. The design of the bach is meant to reflect a rugged and raw environment hidden amongst the Pohutakawa tree.
The vestibule is the spine of the house and is the connection between the upper and lower ground floor. It's left exposed to the site's natural conditions, which means it needs to be robust while being comfortable and easy to clean. Intertwined with softness, the contrast of timber and concrete gives this space an airy feeling with only timber slats that separates one from the wind and rain.
Upcycling of the existing house materials was important to us and our clients so the house will be carefully dismantled to recoup what materials can either be used in the rainscreen of the house and within the interior finishing
We're eagerly anticipating the commencement of this project on site.

Our Point Chevalier project is kicking off soon with demolition starting next week.

The project has evolved over time as most do. Here we have gone for a material contrast of white bagged brick and dark aluminium vertical cladding, both being low maintenance and with two very different textural effects.

We spent a lot of time investigating and understanding the streetscape and how these houses would relate. It was important to us that the front facade be something of interest with a form that is engaging at a pedestrian level whilst achieve a verticality of dense living.

A challenging site, restricted by both the slope and build-able area available. The house has been designed to engage with the bush and nestle into the slope.
