The Year: 2009.
The Brief: Develop a cheese-making manufacturing site where the cheese-making process could be observed and taught.
The Owner: Sue Arthur’s dream was to excite the cheese-tasting public with speciality cheeses and other dairy products. Since then, Over the Moon has notched up over 150 medals and trophies at national and world championships.
The Building: Sue purchased a retail site which previously housed a real estate agents office with a dentistry and lawyer upstairs.
The Background: Over the Moon manufactures cheese and runs the New Zealand Cheese School (professional and DIY courses) on this site, has 2 retail stores (Putaruru and Cambridge) and 2 online stores. Cheese is sent to a couple of hundred other deli stores and restaurants all over New Zealand, and we currently hand make about 30 tons of cheese a year. The New Zealand Cheese School trains professionals and keen home cheesemakers from NZ and round the world, unique in New Zealand and operates from the factory.
