As a passionate gardener I have created Vital Harvest to help inspire and educate others about growing their own food. I run the kitchen gardens at The Falls Retreat Bistro in Waitawheta and am currently running a series of workshops created especially for the home gardener and lifestyle block owner based on the principles of Permaculture. Driving home this evening from a permaculture consult at the base of Mt Pirongia.. past Te Aroha, and through the Karangahake Gorge, this beauty kept me company the whole way home.

She is my ‘post-it note in the sky’ reminder to liquid feed my garden over the weekend.. seaweed foliar concentrate (not a paid ad) is my go-to for a fast-acting pre winter boost of minerals and nutrients. Awesome for plant health and recovery from stressful conditions (had a few of those lately). Long may the current sunshine vibe continue!🤞).

Consider this your full moon liquid feeding reminder.. perfect for newly transplanted seedlings 🌱

Look at that delicious pile of leaves!! The perfect balance to restaurant food scraps 👌 I keep a pile close to the compost for adding in every time scraps go in. Chef doesn’t like them in his gutters or on his paths, so it’s win win.

If I don’t collect as much as I can through the Autumn I find myself struggling for browns to add to the compost pile come Spring.. and that’s when things can turn a bit manky.

🍂Wool sack
🍂 Rubbish bags under the house
🍂 Wire cage (with a coffee sack on top so they don’t blow away)
🍂 Under a hedge

Your future self (and your garden) will thank you for stashing away as much as you can now (before they blow away or the council gathers them up).
