Our congratulations go out to Tennent Brown Architects for an amazing Gold Medal win at the 2025 NZIA awards. Their Ngā Mokopuna (formerly the Living Pā) building at Victoria university, Wellington is a stunning achievement and the Gold Medal is very much deserved. We had the chance to attend the ceremony last night and a fun drinks at the company office.

To say that Tennent Brown are influential on Litchfield and Fields is a major understatement. I was given some of my first model making work in the Tennent Brown offices 22 years ago. Hugh and Ewan were even instrumental in myself and my family gaining our NZ residency. Without which we would not have had the life in NZ that we have enjoyed all these years. Their office is still full of previous creations of mine and I always look forward to seeing either of their names pop up on my phone just in case another model is brewing.

So congrats once again to Hugh and Ewan and their amazing team at Tennent Brown Architects and thank you so much for allowing Litchfield + Fields to be a reality that we love to this day.

And here it is folks, our new Litchfield + Fields Ltd website! A few months in the making and likely with a few tweaks still required but nonetheless we are really happy with the outcome. We have now moved over from litchfieldandfields dot com to a more digestible lfmodels.co.nz. A simple but striking scheme that can be viewed both in black and white depending on your own preference. Hopefully this will bring our products and services to a wider audience and allow us to create more cool models. Please spread the word. If you know anyone that might be interested in what we do please flick them the link, we would be hugely grateful. Almost 19 years in now and it never gets easier but it never stops being fun. Thanks everyone.

One from the archives. Clyde Quay Wharf in Wellington. Previously known as the Overseas passenger terminal. We created 3 stages of model for this. The first was the initial competition model for Athfield Architects. The second was a 1:200 'sketch' model to explore their developing ideas and the third was the final display model. Placed on show in the building itself. Such a fun process and I will never forget having the opportunity to work in the offices with Ian Athfield. He was amazing. Such a nice guy and always good for a chat. He kindly named me 'Stu Laser' as he thought my hand cut components were made using a laser cutter. Not sure where he thought I stashed a laser at my desk! Enjoy.

Logo design is hard and I have never felt like I cracked it for the business. Decided to have a play around with some Ai and a bit of photoshop and this came out in the wash. I might get modelling next and make the real thing on a tabletop to take a photograph of. Fun little side project.

A rare pic of this model as we lost all of the others in a hard drive crash. Such a shame. We actually got to build two at the same time for display in different locations. 1:200 scale, fully internally lit and with local context included. Pic coming next of the finished building.

Te Ara a Tāwhaki at Te Wānanga o Raukawa by Tennent Brown Architects. A simply stunning building in Otāki on the Kāpiti Coast. Across the road from Ngā Purapura and now within the revitatised Pā Reo Campus.

As with all of TBA's designs the model was a challenge but a true joy to create. The feeling of purpose, thought and connection runs throughout all of Hugh Tennent's work and you feel that as you build the model. I am not articulate enough to properly summarise it but the build just feels 'right'. Even down to off cuts of material on the desk proving to be the perfect size to be used elsewhere in the model. It happens too often on model builds like these to simply be a coincidence.
