SR Building Safety and Communication to the rescue again.
This time we responded to an urgent call to bring an access control system, previously rejected by council, up to code.
Installed by a self-proclaimed local security specialist in Wanaka, this was among the worst examples of non-compliant work we have encountered in more than 30 years in the industry.
Not only did the installation fail to comply with relevant standards and the NZ Building Code, it also posed a serious safety risk by potentially trapping occupants inside the building during an emergency.
The original design and workmanship were extremely poor, including the use of cheap, unsecured, Cat 5 data cable to power magnetic locks, incorrect locking hardware for the door type, and the complete absence of the required emergency release devices.
Unfortunately, we were only engaged to make the system compliant and safe. To bring the installation up to the standard we would normally deliver would have required a complete replacement.
Avoid the hassle, delays, and safety risks — contact a qualified and certified specialist from the start.
