Mt Barker Alterations

The main objective to the alteration of this courtyard house in Mount Barker was to prioritise the incredible views over Wanaka.

Through relocating the fireplace, the living spaces are now able to open out through more generous openings to the main views and revised pergola-covered patio.

Minor interior changes along pushing out some of the small alcoves has allowed a more generous and usable laundry, TV room and dressing room.

High-performance timber window and joinery replace the existing. When combined with new insulation and new solar panels driving an upgraded heating system, the comfort and running costs of the home are improved.

Introducing the 'Clee Cottage Addition'.
The 'Clee Cottage Addition' creates a dining space in the courtyard between the two buildings and a new laundry adjacent to the kitchen. Building on previous alterations, the latest addition creates larger and more comfortable living spaces for the growing family, whilst respecting the heritage character of the existing cottage and its surrounding gardens. New heating and hotwater systems along with an upgraded bathroom have set the house up for the future.

Salmond Architecture specialises in designing high performance commercial & community buildings as well repurposing existing buildings - giving them new life. Recently completing the first Passivehaus certified community hall in Luggate, Passivehaus low energy commercial building for Recreational Services in Wanaka and repurposing the old Mitre 10 Building (Paetara Aspiring Central) in Wanaka to create a multi-purpose sport and recreational facility for the local community.
