We’re proud to share our latest project - a purpose‑built production facility for Chitogel at the Blue Mountains Campus in Wellington. Captured here, the project demonstrates the role of technically resolved architecture has in supporting complex scientific processes.

The facility was designed to accommodate highly specialised manufacturing processes, incorporating controlled cleanroom environments, integrated building services, and materials selected to meet strict regulatory and hygiene requirements. Careful coordination of spatial planning, environmental controls, and flexibility has enabled a scalable facility that supports both current production needs and future expansion.

A huge surprise beneath the waves 🌊 We love seeing the spaces we design continue to support meaningful, real‑world research.

The marine biology research team from Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington have uncovered new species of marine sponges in Fiordland, contributing to what’s been described as the world’s largest sponge study - recently featured on Seven Sharp and in the NZ Listener.

Sponges play a vital role in marine ecosystems, providing habitat for fish and other species, while discoveries like these also help scientists track changes in the environment over time.

Our connection is a small one, but one we’re proud of. The Coastal Ecology Building at Ōwhiro Bay was designed to respond to its exposed coastal environment while supporting the important work happening within. Thoughtful architecture, playing a quiet role in extraordinary discoveries.

Designed for innovation, precision and collaboration.

Working with DuluxGroup’s Sydney team, we helped bring their Bowerbird Laboratory to life - a high‑performance space for R&D, testing and quality control.
Science‑led design, durable materials, visual openness and future flexibility, all wrapped in a laboratory that reflects the Dulux brand from bench to ceiling.

We're proud to add this project to our growing portfolio of specialist labs across Australasia.

At Ngā Huia, shared spaces are designed to do more than support learning, they foster connection and collaboration across Massey University - Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa's Tāwharau Ora campus.

Flexible student areas and workspaces support both quiet focus and moments of exchange, adapting to the changing rhythms of academic life.

Embedded within a wider cultural narrative, Ngā Huia reflects a contemporary approach to work and learning. Balancing function, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging.

🌎 The growing importance of containment glasshouses and headhouses

From research glasshouses to quarantine facilities, containment environments are an essential part of how countries protect their bioeconomy, respond to emerging threats, and support innovation in agriculture and horticulture.

In New Zealand, this work is especially critical. Designing high-containment glasshouses and header houses requires a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, environmental control, biosecurity risk, and the practical realities of how scientists work day to day.

Our experience across PC2 and PC3 laboratories, headhouses and containment greenhouses has reinforced how important early collaboration and rigorous planning are to achieving successful outcomes.

As global pressures on food systems and ecosystems increase, so too does the need for infrastructure that is robust, flexible and fit for the future.

Ngā Huia is now complete, and we couldn’t be prouder. A major milestone for Massey University - Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa and Tāwharau Ora - School of Veterinary Science.

Ngā Huia is a new $70 million veterinary research and teaching facility and the final stage of a decade‑long redevelopment that has transformed Massey’s veterinary campus, reinforcing its role as Aotearoa New Zealand’s only veterinary school and a world‑class research institution.

Purpose‑designed to support advanced research, teaching, and collaboration, the facility brings together specialist laboratories and academic and postgraduate workplaces. Ngā Huia strengthens Massey’s ability to respond to disease outbreaks and global health challenges, while supporting a highly regarded and growing veterinary profession.

A strong cultural narrative, developed in partnership with Rangitāne o Manawatū, is embedded throughout. The story of the huia - symbolising interdependence, knowledge, and leadership - is woven into a facility that is technically advanced, culturally grounded, and future‑focused.

Ngā Huia stands as a flagship for veterinary science in Aotearoa, designed to serve Massey, the profession, and the nation for generations to come.
