The stunning kitchen, beautifully designed and crafted by the skilled team at PlyLab // furniture / kitchens , offered us the perfect opportunity to contribute with a 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 — enhancing the space and adding meaningful value to the final experience.

Light brings the space to life, 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 that shape the room and setting the tone for how it’s experienced.

𝗜’𝗺 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁’𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘆𝗲?

Nine 𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿-𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, each dropped at its own height, will soon line this 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 as part of a much larger 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 for a stunning new build.

Right now, we’re experimenting with the same shapes in two very different 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀:
✨ Option 1: A 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲, 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝘄 that softens the stairwell
🌿 Option 2: A 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗿, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁, still organic, still dynamic, but perhaps a touch busier when all nine are together

We’re currently refining a 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 to create a 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗵𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗺 in the stairwell.

Playing with the limits, expanding the spaces

𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗥𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.
Designed for a lovely couple passionate about 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, this compact home proves that 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.
Over 18 months, we collaborated closely, refining plans, making careful decisions, and 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.

𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 helped 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲, softening the tight edges of this near tiny-house design.
A 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 allows the atmosphere to shift gracefully with daily routines.

It’s been a while… and a lot has happened.
Since 2022, life has shifted in the most unexpected and beautiful way: 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. Our son is now three years old, and like many parents, 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.

Though I’ve been quiet here, 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱. Behind the scenes, 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, each project a chance to explore how light can transform the way we feel in a space.

𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲. One of the pieces I’m sharing here is a 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 I designed and built for our son. He uses it every day to join us in the kitchen, helping prepare meals, being part of our daily life. It’s a small example of 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, extending beyond lighting and into the rhythms of family life.
