KebbellDaish.

KebbellDaish. Architecture for creative folk - at home, work, and in public KebbellDaish was founded by Sam Kebbell and John Daish in Wellington, New Zealand.

John retired in 2009 and Sam has directed the practice since. In addition to his work in practice, Sam is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Architecture, Victoria University of Wellington. He grew up in suburban and rural New Zealand where modesty and pragmatism were held in high regard, but he has also worked in several of the great international cities and studied in some of the world’s most am

bitious universities. He brings both his New Zealand roots and a deep knowledge of international discourse to each project, and revels in the dynamic between modest practicalities and far-reaching ideas. Sam holds a PhD from RMIT University in Melbourne, and in 2015 was an ADAPTr Research Fellow at the University of Westminster in London. He graduated from VUW with a B.Arch (1st class Hons) in 1998 which included an exchange to the Penn State University visual arts program and the Penn State architecture program in Rome. He completed his Masters of Design in History and Theory (Distinction) at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard (Cambridge, USA) in 1999. Sam worked in Boston, New York, and Amsterdam before he returned to practice in Wellington. KebbellDaish has won numerous architectural awards and competitions and several of its projects have been exhibited in New Zealand, Australia, and Europe, and the work continues to be the subject of articles in popular, professional, and academic publications.

Happy Birthday KebbellDaish, twenty two years old today. One of our early projects under the KD moniker was with .stevens.vuw for the incredible group of creatives at Saatchi & Saatchi Wellington. Forever grateful for that experience, and the many projects with other brilliant creatives since. My aunt brought the sheep down in a horse truck for the photo shoot with . We backed the truck up to the lift in the carpark, and they were remarkably comfortable up there on the 4th floor.

I haven’t been in touch with Liz for a while, but as you can see we were pretty close in the late 70s. Of course it was nice to contribute my drawing to her art collection, now under the King’s watch. I hope he realises the full scope of his new responsibilities.
