Exploring Naxos in Greece, we came across this stunning marble stone searching for the Kouroi statues (7th century )
Unbeknown to us, Naxos was the first Greek Island to work with marble & led the way to creating those fantastic Greek structures and Statues we 🤍 Greece for.
Every inch of this blessed rocky hill on the edge of the Mediterranean, is connected to marble.
This marble i think is named Naxos Crystalline/Cycladic marble.
There are several qualities that make Naxos marble unique.
It begins with a sparkle, the crystallization, making it one of the most popular.
It's less porous than other types, this being more durable & less prone to stains from spills.
The marble is used for various interior & exterior design projects.
Naxos marble is 2% quartz & 98% cacite giving it's shiney apperance that seems to gleam with the light.
This exited Hayden & I (the kids got bored after finding enough pieces to bring home with them) but how cool to see it in it's natural form in the huge hills & then see how it's extracted & processed in to beautiful slabs ready for someones home.
