FORDELL POOL UPDATE 🌼 We are beyond thrilled to announce that a whopping total of $20,092.53 has been raised for the Fordell Community Pool from all sales of 'Fordell' (Mattdell) rose plants in 2025! What a truly epic effort! We want to say a massive thank you to each & every person who purchased a plant last year - especially the entire team at Wanganui Garden Centre who helped to sell nearly a third of that total. All the proceeds raised have gone toward the pool refurbishment fund - to help get our 80 year old pool upgraded & back open for the local community. We'd also like to thank the crew at River City Press Whanganui for featuring this exciting news in this weeks edition!

Our beautiful rose 'Fordell' (Mattdell) will now become part of the 'My Rose Collection' range for general release in 2026. If you’re looking to add a touch of fragrance and beauty to your garden, we have a fresh stock of Daphne plants now available:
• Daphne Leucanthe Odora Pink: Known for its highly fragrant light pink flowers, this evergreen shrub thrives in part sun to part shade and reaches up to 1M x 1M
• Daphne Leucanthe Alba White: This variety boasts creamy white blooms with a delightful fragrance, appearing in late winter. It prefers semi-shade and well-drained, lime-free soil. 

Both are 2-year-old plants, priced at $49.95 each.

Please note that Daphne plants prefer cool, well-aerated, humus-rich soil and are sensitive to root disturbance. It’s best to plant them in their permanent location when young and avoid moving them.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richards Andrew Cvitanovich. Richie played an essential role at the Wanganui Garden Centre, dedicating his time to work alongside his late father, Ivan Cvitanovich, especially after his dad suffered a serious heart attack in the mid-1960s. In the late 1990s, as Richie began to slow down, he took up the hobby of breeding and selling goldfish, earning the affectionate nickname "Grandad Fish" from his grandchildren. 🐠

Richie was born on 11/09/1935 and passed away on 22/03/2025. His dedication and passion for the garden centre will always be remembered by the community he served.

In honor of Richie’s memory, we will be closing the Wanganui Garden Centre for the entire day on Wednesday, 26th March. We invite all who knew him to attend his funeral, which will take place at Dempsey and Forrest at 11 am on Wednesday, 26th March. Your support during this difficult time is greatly appreciated. 🌳🐟🪽❤️
