A kitchen renovation involves more people than most homeowners realise going in.

It's not just the kitchen company. By the time your new kitchen is finished, you'll have had an electrician, plumber, plasterer, painter, flooring professional and rangehood installer all through your home, often more than once each.

Knowing who you need and when they're coming is one of the things that separates a smooth renovation from a stressful one.

Swipe through and save it for when you're ready to start planning.

Corner cupboards are one of the most wasted spaces in a kitchen.

Most people accept that the corner is just awkward, hard to reach, and ends up being where things go to get forgotten. It doesn't have to be that way.

A double pull-out drawer system transforms the whole corner into storage you can actually see and access easily. Everything comes to you instead of you having to dig around in the back of a dark cupboard.

It's one of those details that makes a kitchen genuinely easier to live in every single day, and it's the kind of thing worth talking to your designer about early before the layout is finalised.

A good kitchen designer thinks about how you actually live in your kitchen, not just how it looks. The layout, the zones, the workflow. It all gets considered before a single cabinet is drawn.

Getting a designer involved early prevents the kind of mistakes that cost money to fix later. Appliances ordered before the design is sorted. Colours chosen before the layout is locked in. A designer keeps the decisions in the right order.

They also have access to products, suppliers and finishes that aren't available off the shelf, which means more options and often better value than sourcing things independently.

The details, the timelines, the trades, the sequencing. A designer keeps track of all of it so you don't have to carry that in your head throughout the whole project.

And the brief is just the starting point. Some of the best features in our kitchens started as something a client hadn't even considered until their first conversation with a designer.

Every now and then a kitchen comes together in a way that surprises everyone, including the people who built it.

This one started as a small, closed off kitchen with a tight budget and a very specific brief. It ended up as one of our favourite projects.

Swipe through to see how it came together, and what's possible when the design does the heavy lifting.

A secondary sink, a boiling water tap, a dedicated wine fridge.

None of these are essential. But ask anyone who has them whether they'd go back, and the answer is always the same.

A secondary sink keeps prep and washing up separate, so the main sink stays clear while you're cooking. A boiling water tap means no waiting, no kettle on the bench. A wine fridge means a proper home for the bottles that usually end up wherever there's space.

Small decisions at the design stage. Big difference to how the kitchen feels day to day.

A good kitchen island does a lot of work. It gives you extra prep space, somewhere for people to sit, storage that's actually easy to use, and a place for everything that would otherwise end up scattered across the bench.

When it's designed well, it also becomes the centrepiece of the whole kitchen. The feature everything else is built around.

Swipe through for six island features worth thinking about before your design is finalised, and save it for when you're ready to plan.

It usually comes down to the layout of your key zones.

When the fridge, sink and prep area are too far apart, you end up covering a lot of ground without realising it. Every meal becomes more effort than it needs to be.

The fix is simpler than most people think. Keep everyday items close to where they get used. Keep prep and cooking areas near each other. A well-designed kitchen isn't necessarily a big one, it's one where everything is in the right place.
