From water-damaged to restored: A "Zen" Veneer Challenge ⚓

​A few weeks ago, I shared a video about the meticulous patience required for this project.

​The original veneer on these sailboat cabinets was badly damaged by moisture. This was a true masterclass in precision: working with delicate wood veneer leaves, hand-scribing each piece to match the original curved contours, and carefully sliding them under the existing trim without removing the whole unit.

​It required a serious amount of "Zen" focus for those fiddly micro-adjustments, but the hard part is done. The new veneer is perfectly bonded with epoxy and finished with marine varnish for long-term protection.

​The perfect timing to get this beautiful interior sorted while the boat is tucked away for the cooler months here in Whangārei! 🔨🌊

Rosewood entrance restoration on a sailing boat ⚓

Carefully removed the damaged veneer and fabricated a new matching piece to preserve the original panel and blend seamlessly with the existing timber.

All trims rebuilt in solid rosewood, new handles fitted, wood plugs installed and full refinish to tie everything together.

Clean lines. Tight joints. Timber done properly.

Available for cabinetmaking, custom timber work, renovations and general building.

Old oak table – full transformation ✨

The original table had a damaged central panel in veneer, including a hole through the top.
Rather than patching it, I chose to completely redesign the centre panel.

The new top features a modern marquetry design:
• Central panel in Rimu veneer
• Decorative strips in White Ash
• Original Oak structure kept and restored

A mix of old and new, respecting the character of the table while giving it a contemporary identity.
