When buying or selling 1 node cuttings it’s important to have at least 1 of each of these on the piece on offer.
First is a node which is the line around the stem to which the leaf was or preferably is attached. This is where the roots will develop. An aerial root here would be an advantage also
The second and very important part is the node or bud from which the new shoot will emerge.
It is important to have some stem above and below these 2 points to give the plant a chance. I like to cut the leaf to about a third if it’s a large one so it doesn’t drain too much energy from the cutting. I also stake it with a stick to prevent movement.
Monsteras can take a very long time to shoot so be patient and don’t keep pulling it out to check the roots 🥴
Also if buying a variegated piece you need to understand that the stem can throw plain green shoots if the bud is on a green part of the stem.
