At Lusso Balmori, the experience begins before guests are seated. The door handle carries the Lusso name a small but deliberate gesture that sets the tone for the rest of the dining journey. Ar. Jorge Yulo worked from the original door handle of the first Lusso at Greenbelt 5, refining it for each branch to give every location its own touch while keeping the Lusso character intact.

From there, the custom tile pattern, hand-drawn and calculated by Ar. Yulo, takes over as the room's central focal point, its geometry carried up to the ceiling and extending the design language throughout the space.

LUSSO BALMORI, MANILA 2023

The domed ceiling that crowns the dining room of Lusso Balmori was designed in close collaboration with the late Chef Margarita Forés, inspired by her collection of chandeliers.

Of the three Lusso branches, Balmori presented a distinct creative opportunity an almost perfectly square floor plan that demanded a strong spatial anchor. A domed chandelier gave the room a clear center and a reason to look up, while keeping the rest of the space restrained enough to let the food, service, and visual experience speak for themselves.

The wine shelves and glass hangers at Lusso were inspired by an inverted Christmas tree.

Ar. Jorge Yulo was designing the space during the Christmas season, when the city was lined with them. He took that image, flipped it, and used it as the framework for displaying Lusso's glassware each glass hanging the way an ornament would, turning what is usually functional storage into part of the room.

The final design was executed in brass, a material that runs through the rest of the space.

The staircase is as much a part of the architecture as any wall or material. Like the spatial geometries of artist M.C. Escher, the staircase at the S Residence (2016) folds in on itself— integrated into the overall form, shaping the space, strengthening the wall composition, and working with the sun to provide natural shading.

Ranked #1 in Vogue UK's 100 Best Holidays. The design process began with the island itself: its light, its air, its position on the water. The climate and the surrounding natural elements have always been part of how we design, and tropical architecture is a language the firm knows well.

The structures were built to follow from that: open, ventilated, and grounded in what the place already offered.
