Research Title:
Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Baguio City Plant Enthusiasts Regarding Soil-Transmitted Helminths Infection

We would like to thank those who participated in our study last 2021 also to the admins who assisted us in the process. We would like to share the outcome of our study with you as well.

Home gardening has become a trend to Baguio City residents and they went from ‘resident’ to
‘plant enthusiast (more commonly referred to as plantitos and plantitas)’ status ever since thepandemic brought about by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)starting in 2019. However, soil-related activities have been associated with the risk of acquiringsoil-transmitted helminths (STH) infection. According to the results, the long-termexperienced plant enthusiasts had a good level of knowledge on STH infection, while theshort-term plant enthusiasts yielded poor knowledge. High mean scores reflect that therespondents are knowledgeable regarding STH infection, transmission, prevention, signs, symptoms, and complications. Along with their good knowledge, their positive attitudes or good
practices will also protect them, and they are less likely to acquire STH infection. Having a
positive attitude will affect the way they engage in planting and is directly related to practicing
preventive measures frequently. Overall, only knowledge is associated with the respondents’length of experience in handling plants, while there is not enough evidence to suggest anassociation in the other variables.
