Another set of successfully propagated ๐ท๐‘’๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘š๐‘ข๐‘š ๐‘“๐‘Ÿ๐‘ข๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘๐‘œ๐‘ ๐‘ข๐‘š was transplanted at Ba-ang, Bauko, Mountain Province.

The activity creates an ex-situ conservation site that safeguards the project's propagated planting material, establishing them as accessible platforms for future research on sustainable harvesting and quality improvement.

๐ท๐‘’๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘š๐‘ข๐‘š ๐‘“๐‘Ÿ๐‘ข๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘๐‘œ๐‘ ๐‘ข๐‘š ๐’๐ž๐ž๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ 

The Wild Tea Project Team successfully transplanted 80 seedlings of ๐ท. ๐‘“๐‘Ÿ๐‘ข๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘๐‘œ๐‘ ๐‘ข๐‘š on January 29, 2026 at Mountain Province State University- Tadian Campus.

The planted seedlings were treated with various animal manures to promote their growth and support ongoing research aimed for formulating reliable fertilizer recommendations for sustainable livelihoods among local farmers.

๐“๐‡๐‘๐Ž๐”๐†๐‡ ๐“๐‡๐„ ๐‹๐„๐๐’ || Encouraging sustainable wild tea livelihoods and conservation efforts, University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue graced a capacity-building activity for wild tea farmers and stakeholders at MPSU Baang Campus, Bauko, MP on 09 January 2026.
In his message, Dr. Cue emphasized the significance of said activity, highlighting how said initiative โ€œreflects our shared commitment to sustainable development that honors both people and the environment.โ€
โ€œWild tea, deeply rooted in the natural heritage of Mountain Province, is more than an agricultural resource. It is a symbol of our rich biodiversity and indigenous knowledge,โ€ he said.
Dr. Cue also added that through this capacity-building in propagation, processing, and conservation, it his hoped that it will empower communities to create sustainable livelihoods while also safeguarding the natural ecosystems.
The said activity titled, โ€˜Empowering Communities through Production and Biodiversity Conservation of Wild Tea Plants in Mountain Provinceโ€™, is part of a project funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DOST) and is being implemented by MPSU. #

MPSU-Ba-ang โ€” The University recently conducted a training to equip agriculturists and local farmers with essential knowledge and skills on wild tea propagation and processing. This initiative is part of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-funded project titled "Production and Biodiversity Conservation of Wild Tea Plants in Mountain Province." led by Dr. Lichelyn Nasungan
The training featured lectures and hands-on workshops by MPSU experts. Dr. Julie Garsi lectured on the morphological characteristics of a specific wild tea species, Dr. Alexander T. Baldic delivered a lecture on the propagation of wild tea, followed by a practical workshop facilitated by Dr. Lichelyn M. Nasungan. On the processing side, Mr. Rolando M. Tawanna, Jr. presented a lecture on wild tea processing, with Dr. Epiphania B. Magwilang and Dr. Joyce D. Cuyangoan conducting a workshop to provide practical skills.
University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue also graced the said event. Dr. Cue emphasized that the initiative underscores a shared commitment to sustainable development that respects both people and the environment, highlighting wild tea as a vital symbol of Mountain Provinceโ€™s biodiversity and indigenous heritage.
Through this program, MPSU aims to empower agriculturists and farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices that support both production and biodiversity conservation in the province. #
