Been so busy being a Mom and a Teacher, I hardly had time for my plants. We now just have a hi and goodbye relationship, just making sure they don’t dry out, haven’t fertilized for almost 3 months now.😅

But then here is this Begonia Fireworks doing what it naturally does: grow and display its beauty..😍

Acclimated Holland Begonias. Release Date: June 30..🙂

Potted in a medium of Loam, Vermicast, Perlite, Pumice, Coco Peat and CRH. Some pots are with Sphagnum Moss, some don’t have due to unavailability.

Fertilized with 20-20-20 every 15th and 30th.

You know you are a Begoniac when you know the risk of collecting Holland varieties and you go for it anyway. Begonia Rexes are already finicky, much more imported ones. I had to go through several dead pots before I understood them better.

I usually divide the plant depending on how many “mother” plants there are in a pot. For Magic Colors it’s usually three, for the other brands, it’s usually just two. I do this for two reasons, to sell the others and to also ensure that at least one lives because Dutch begonias dropping dead is not a rare occurrence.

My medium is usually a mix of loam, vermicast, perlite, pumice, CRH and sphagnum moss. Since I started collecting when summer was already just around the corner, I learned the hard way that they require temperature below 25 and humidity above 50. I had to aircondition and humidify them artificially in my office just for them to survive the summer heat.

Posted plants are already two months acclimated so I am most certain they will already thrive and I moved them back to our home. I keep them indoors in an area where they receive filtered sunlight and continually use a humidifier.

I still have other varieties which are still less than a month with me,they’re looking good but with Dutch begonias you will never know. So, if you are afraid of buying a whole pot of Hollander, you can certainly purchase those that I have acclimated already. I only release a month after transplanting and when new leaves are sprouting..:)
