A livable city have roads that moves people , not just motorised vehicles .. less pollution, a better experience and healthier citizens !
WHEN STREETS PRIORITIZE SPEED, WHO GETS LEFT BEHIND?
Today’s street designs focus on rapidly moving vehicles over safely moving people. The design consequences of this imbalance include the making of narrower sidewalks, disappearing street crossings, and pushing pedestrians into more dangerous situations. Waiting, walking, and crossing become risky behaviors.
Pedestrians, cyclists, and the like are forced to walk in dangerous conditions when the urban design begins to eliminate street crossings and narrow sidewalks. It becomes a risk to walk, wait, or cross the street.
Care-centered designs, on the other hand, have safe, visible street crossings and maintain all spacious sidewalks.
Let's think back about the experience:
✅ Would you feel comfortable walking or waiting here every day?
✅ Who benefits more in the current setup - Drivers or the rest of us?
✅ What do you want the most: shade, space or safety?
It should be clear by now that human safety should never be sacrificed to maintain the highest speed. All street design should reflect that speed should not come at the expense of human safety.
