I love designing furniture. I love the challenge it presents, the details involved, and the overall process of creating something of use.
For me, it is the micro representation of what Architecture is all about. The same attention, effort and care is given.
Backstory.
This armchair is an answer to an observation made when I visited my highschool alma mater. An uncomfortable armchair does not do a good job of promoting an enjoyable learning experience for a student required to sit in class for at least 6 hours a day.
The armchair is designed to give a student a comfortable learning experience by reducing the strain of being seated in the classroom for long periods. The chair also removes the burden of carrying a heavy load caused by books and notebooks to school. These items can be stored under the chair by using the drawer provided that comes with a lock and key.
These details may seem mundane, but they are important. The impact these details will have on the students remain to be seen. However, I am confident it will be positive.
With minor adjustments to this prototype, the final version will be ready.
Lastly, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Among Balay. This would not be possible without them. Thank you for giving your resources and expertise in the realization of this piece.
