This series presents selected works from an ongoing spatial design research project by Dr. Lionel Sanchez, PIID, examining q***r thresholds and everyday environments in Cebu City. The project asks: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀, 𝘃𝗲𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲?

The analog Instax photographs document ordinary urban spaces, captured exclusively during daylight hours. The choice of instant film resists digital perfection, embracing the medium’s materiality, limited exposures, and singular, unrepeatable image. Each photograph becomes both document and artifact.

Across the documented sites, mature Balete (Ficus) trees and densely vegetated edges emerge as recurring spatial conditions. These landscapes appear quiet and unremarkable by day yet participate in a different social rhythm after dark. Rather than depicting activities directly, the work invites viewers to consider how places accumulate layered meanings through movement, memory, and lived experience.

Grounded in the concept of 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, the research understands interiors not simply as enclosed rooms but as spatial conditions shaped through behaviors and encounters. Here, vegetation functions as a spatial device through which visibility, concealment, and social interaction are continually negotiated. Within these everyday settings, q***r men negotiate safety and intimacy, momentarily transforming familiar landscapes into spaces of recognition and connection. By photographing these environments in daylight, the work foregrounds the ordinary while revealing how place is continually co-produced beyond the conventional confines of architecture.

Summer reminds us that the best spaces are those shared with others.
Around a table, beneath the trees, or over a simple dessert.
Great design quietly makes these moments possible.
Thank you, summer. See you again soon. ☀️🌿

One thing I’ve been trying to correct over the years is the idea that interior design is “just decorating.”

As Florence Knoll once said:

“I am not a decorator. The only place I decorate is my own house.”

That quote has always resonated with me.

Before the pillows, artwork, and accessories come space planning, lighting, circulation, materials, furniture detailing, building codes, ergonomics, and hundreds of decisions that people never see.

Decoration is part of interior design, but it is only one small part of what we do.

I hope people begin to see interior design not as making spaces prettier, but as making them work better for the people who use them.

Since 1950, Classic Savory has been serving generations of Filipino families.

It has been our privilege to contribute to that story with its newest home in Dumaguete.

From planning and material selection to lighting, finishes, and every detail in between, this project was about creating an ambience that feels timeless, welcoming, and true to the Classic Savory brand.

Thank you for trusting Sanchez Design Studio, Inc.

We look forward to seeing many memorable meals shared in this space.

Pride is more than a celebration. It is also a reminder.

Interior designers help shape the spaces where people live, work, learn, heal, gather, and play. At its best, design is about creating environments where people feel safe, respected, and able to be themselves.

We celebrate Pride because, in many parts of the world, people are still criminalized for who they are. Many continue to face discrimination, unequal opportunities, exclusion, or are made to feel that they do not belong.

Progress has been made, but it did not happen by accident. It happened because people had the courage to be visible, demand dignity, and create space for others to do the same. That is why Pride matters. Not only to celebrate how far we have come, but to remember the work that remains.

The most successful interiors are not simply beautiful. They are spaces that welcome, support, and respect the people who use them.

Happy Pride Month from Sanchez Design Studio.

🏆 The Lost Boys won the 2026 Tony Award for Best Scenic Design of a Musical, with scenic designer Dane Laffrey recognized for bringing the world of Santa Carla to life.

A good reminder that design is never just decoration. Whether on Broadway or inside a home, office, or commercial space, design shapes how people move, connect, and remember.

The best designers are storytellers. They simply use space instead of words. Design is storytelling through space.

Tap 🤍 if you believe great design should make people feel something.
