This beautiful specimen was seed-grown and left in the undergrowth during our 3-year hiatus. After clearing some leaves โ€” lo and behold โ€” it was a tricolor!

Wonderfully contrasted maroons, creams, and reds.

Growing from seed is full of surprises. You can get one-of-a-kind mutations, unique colorations, and even variegations!

A few clients reached out to me expressing concern that their ๐’๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ž๐ฐ๐ฌ are losing dew (some straight out died cuz they just placed it on a shelf)

Please be reminded that ๐’๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ž๐ฐ๐ฌ โ€” true to their name โ€” loves the sun!

Lately, days have been gloomy so this should be taken into account. Especially with the windowsill set-ups.

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ก๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ˆ ๐๐จ?
Give it more light and expose them outdoors on gloomy days. You can place it in a big container (like recycled water containers) to shield it from heavy rain; especially if your sundew is still small.

Alternatively, you can give it some artificial light like a bright lamp. Keep it close to the plant until the dew returns.

Some of our clients, encouraged by how their sundew caught plenty of pests, even bought grow lights from Shopee (theyโ€™re cheap with plenty of options, all of them works as long as itโ€™s bright)

On the other hand, a lot of our buyers reached out with another sort of problem: โ€œ๐™ƒ๐™ค๐™ฌ ๐™˜๐™–๐™ฃ ๐™„ ๐™ง๐™š๐™ฅ๐™ค๐™ฉ ๐™ข๐™ฎ ๐™จ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™™๐™š๐™ฌ ๐™˜๐™ช๐™ฏ ๐™ž๐™ฉโ€™๐™จ ๐™œ๐™ง๐™ค๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™›๐™–๐™จ๐™ฉ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™ข๐™–๐™ ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ก๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™จ ๐™ค๐™› ๐™—๐™–๐™—๐™ž๐™š๐™จ!โ€

To the unfortunate few, we feel you, we lost a lot of these plants when we started (esp. since we had to ship ours and they arrive stressed). Thereโ€™s a learning curve to all things.

This proto-carnivore may not be as effective at killing bugs, but it sure can whoop some insect butts! I think this one got into the pickleball trend.

A living ๐—™๐—Ÿ๐—ฌ๐—ฃ๐—”๐—ฃ๐—˜๐—ฅ from bug-hell!

By some freak accident, we lost all our ๐ƒ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐š ๐›๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ง๐ข๐ฌ a few years back.

We set out on a quest to grow some back.

We acquired some seeds from different suppliers (both locally and abroad). Unfortunately, even if you get legit seeds, many factors can ruin its viability: handling, heat, excess moisture, contamination, expiry etc.

None germinated. Even with the best growing conditions.

Then, out of nowhere, this little fella came along โ€” a stray! It just popped out from a pot of an imported nepenthes.

It was barely visible then. We transplanted it, and in less than a month, already FULL SIZE!

It is a cute glutton and a โ€œmukbangโ€ star. Every leaf digesting the corpses of its fallen enemies.

Today, it is starting to flower (and soon seed!)
So when you get a ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐›๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ง๐ข from us someday, know that it came from this voracious lone traveller.

One of my early memories of growing Carnivorous plants is sending a complaint Email to my very first supplier โ€” A famous german naturalist and โ€œnepenthophileโ€ by the name of ๐•๐จ๐ฅ๐ค๐ž๐ซ ๐‡๐ž๐ข๐ง๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐ก (unfortunately, he closed shop now).

He sent me a batch of Venus flytraps that were a bit on the smaller side. So โ€œyada yada yadaโ€ฆthese are too small, Volker!โ€

In true germanic fashion, his response was:
โ€œThatโ€™s why theyโ€™re called ๐ฏ๐ž๐ง๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐…๐‹๐˜๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ฌ, and not ๐ฏ๐ž๐ง๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐ˆ๐‘๐ƒ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ฌ!โ€

This line I have continued to re-use and recycle whenever I get confronted with clients commenting โ€œoh, they look smaller in personโ€
