Perched into the hills - a quiet escape from the urban hustle, there’s something magical about the way the sunset hits this home. The playful and simple stacking of volumes and choice of materials to contrast and carefully balance the warmth of natural wood and concrete with massive glass windows, makes you feel like the structure floats above its site.

A Tropical Dialogue of Connection and Comfort:
Designing a retirement home by crafting comfort, connection, and light. For this south-facing dwelling, every angle is a nod to the tropical sun and prevailing breezes. The core brief was centered as a sanctuary for retirement—a place meant to gather loved ones with ease. By deliberately positioning the common spaces to spill out through wide, breezy openings on the southwest, turning the yard into a shared, generous courtyard with the adjacent sibling's home. Carefully aligned to the owners' intended way of living.

The structure itself is a subtle study in response to the site conditions—deep eaves for shade, pocket gardens, and screened walls for privacy and still allowing airflow, and a steep, ventilated roof to keep the interiors cool. A home molded by the tropics, a quiet embrace of the climate, to live comfortably in tropical modernity.

Cebu-based DNC Architects, founded in 2012 started as a small studio practice accepting project appointments from various clients. Working through the profession, DNC Architects seeks to create inventive buildings and interiors while paying close attention to social responsibility and sustainable design and construction practices. As an emerging firm building up a practice, the firm works on small to mid scale projects, driven towards creating an innovative architecture with a strong focus on sustainability, while establishing a sense of character on the projects. Having had a working experience of almost 10 years in the industry and gaining experiences both locally and overseas, as a professional entrusted with works ranging from small scale to large developments, from Project Conceptualization and Coordination to Preparing tender and shop drawings for construction and supervision, these has equipped the principal with the essential knowledge and experience needed in the practice. Being based overseas, the principal have been involved on both private and government projects, coordinating on the flow of construction and design, meticulously coordinating with authorities and keeping every aspect of the project on track. DNC Architects have been involved with projects such as structure addition and alteration works, interior design and fit-out, residential, commercial and office, condo and hotel building designs. DNC Architects design ideals are primarily based on contemporary and modern approaches, driven towards the aspects of sustainability and green building.
