"Whenever she was home, Lucia Valdez would teach young painters how to use oil - her favorite medium. Among Lucia's students was Sissel W.M. Salucop, one of her many grandchildren from her Mangapit cousins. Now a published illustrator, Salucop says that her Lola Lucia is her biggest influence. Known for her gentle, almost loving brush strokes, Lucia’s style dominates in Sissel's. Although the Batac native never gave her training a thought in her younger years, she now knows that it is and was a gift."

Almost two centuries have passed since Juan Luna launched his career in Madrid's art scene and while many followed in his footsteps, they were not as successful. I would also like to congratulate the curator, my cousin Manang Kath Lagustan for handling this event with such finesse! And of course, I am thankful to my sister Sigrid for all the exhibits I have been a part of in the past few years. Without her guidance, I will still be hiding my work.
