The Calculator:

Volume of Rain Water VRw = Rw X Ra

Rw : Expected Rainfall for the Month based on Rainfall Normals
Ra : Roof Area of the building/house

Market Value of Rain Water MVRw = VRw X Mv X dwc

Mv : market value based on the prevailing CNWD/Prime Water Bills which is Php 272.32/10 m3 = Php 27.32 / m3
dwc : drinking water coefficient: 0.7 this represents the reduced value of the rain water in comparison. The 30 % reduction represents the cost of converting the rainwater to become a potable drinking water which includes additional filtration, pasteurization and re-mineralization

Potential Number of Households to be Served: Phh = VRw / 10 m3 ;

10 m3 is the assumed maximum consumption of an average HH

Additional concept designs to this prototype i call THE GARDEN SUERO. Please note.... the bottle (left of the photo) has a receptacle on top to effectively catch rainfall if it happens (wider is better) .. and then a bunch of coco fiber to prevent mosquitoes from entering and breeding inside the bottle. A hole is dug on the ground and filled with compost. The bottle is set over the compost. Seeds are planted around this bottle and then a thick layer of mulch covers the soil to prevent evaporation.

With the intensifying El Nino, drip watering could be the defining element if we can have grow food or not.

An ancient technology called OLLAS (pronounced as oyas) have been with the indigenous people. It is a simple unglazed clay jar filled with water and buried beside the plants in the garden. Water is released by trickles and only if the ground gets too dry.

While i truly admire this technology, clay jars are not always available and could also be expensive.
Thus i created my own version..... a BOTTLE DRIP WATERER. Any container is fitted with a wick that is encased in a rubber hose. The wick pulls up water through capillary action while the hose protects the wick from drying under the intense sun.

This prototyoe shows that water drip as fast as 0.5 drop per second when full and as slow as a drop/38 seconds when almost empty.

I welcome everyone to test this technology. I would be happy to receive any feedback.
