I once said (2017), “Makalayas nagyud ko sa UM, dili nagyud ko mubalik aning skwelahana, kapoy kaayo,” but now I’m in my 4th year as a UM faculty member and finishing my master’s degree—still here at UM (2026), almost ten years later.
Each one of us has a plan—a path we once dreamed of working in—but God has plans for us far better than what we have. Teaching was not my chosen field, nor was it ever marked in my imagination, yet here I am now, a faculty member in the Architecture Department, unexpectedly realizing a fulfillment that money can never pay off.
I’m not the best instructor out there (just an average), nor am I competing to be one. I’m just doing my job, but now I’m doing what I love—and hearing this from my students is an unexplainable feeling that I could ever have as an instructor:
“Sir, nakat-on gyud ko sa imo. Thank you kaayo.”
