FIRST REGISTERED FEMALE ARCHITECT IN PH TURNS 100 ๐๐ช๐ผ
The woman who marked the history of being the first registered female architect in the Philippines withstood history herself as she turned 100 years old on Thursday, August 11, 2022.
Aida Cruz Del Rosario, who made history when she entered the University of Santo Tomasโ (UST) College of Architecture to brave a male-dominated field, is now officially a centenarian.
In a Facebook post, Muntinlupaโs mayor Ruffy Biazon disclosed to the public that he awarded Del Rosario a P100,000 cash gift from their local government through Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in the municipality.
Aside from being the first registered female architect in the Philippines, Del Rosario was also the first female graduate of USTโs architecture school in 1947. She even placed 7th in the licensure exam back then.
She joined forces with her engineer husband, Jose del Rosario, designing and constructing multiple projects across the country, including the early formation of the University of Baguio.
The cash award was in pursuance of the Centenarians Act of 2016, otherwise known as the Republic Act 10868.
The act mandates the government to honor citizens 100 years old and above with P100,000 worth of cash and a congratulatory letter from the president to recognize their contribution to the country. (Facebook/Ruffy Biazon)
